Stay Snug With an Electric Blanket and Mattress Topper

!±8± Stay Snug With an Electric Blanket and Mattress Topper

No-one wants to get in to a cold bed at night, especially when it gets nearer to winter. This is why the bedding industry is full of great products to buy to keep us comfortable and warm during the night. A couple of these include the mattress topper and electric blanket.

The mattress topper is a very useful item for providing extra padding to the top of a mattress. If you have a mattress that you find uncomfortable, a mattress topper can be ideal. It's also a cheaper alternative to buying a brand new mattress.

There are plenty of different sizes, materials, and thicknesses of mattress toppers. Choosing any particular one will of course depend on your preference and requirements, but the better toppers are arguably the memory foam type.

Memory foam is a material that can respond to body temperature. Due to this feature, the memory foam mattress topper can properly support the contours of the body and relieve pressure points. This also means proper spinal alignment.

In addition to the memory type toppers there are other materials like down and wool. Down toppers are comfortable and lightweight, and also very warm, but pay attention to stitchwork quality. You want to buy toppers that can contain the down and feathers. Woll is a good material for keeping warm and absorbing moisture. This will keep you dry and are ideal for all seasons.

Like most bedding, mattress toppers are available in all major sizes including cal king, king, queen, double and twin. You should definitely think about the thickness of the topper, especially if you opt for the memory foam type. The thickness of the memory foam dictates the pressure-relieving effects and comfort it provides.

The electric blanket is a good way to warm the bed and can even save you money on heating. Whereas you might usually keep the central heating on during the night to keep warm, an electric blanket can work as an alternative. Some models are even available as wireless versions so you do not need to worry about the wire trapping underneath the mattress or getting tangled.

The thermostat control of electric blankets means you can set it to your preferred temperature. These items are sure to keep you warm whilst you are in your bed. Users of these items should always pay attention to the manufacturer's instructions for safety and proper use.

How to Use Memory Foam Mattress Pads

!±8± How to Use Memory Foam Mattress Pads

Memory foam, the gel-like polyurethane material that holds impressions on its surface, is mostly associated with mattress pads. The memory foam mattress pad was first put to use in hospitals in the 1980s, where the material proved itself invaluable in reducing pressure sores for bedridden patients. In the 1990s, the memory foam mattress pad was introduced to the general public, at pretty exorbitant prices. Realizing its potential for popularity, private companies worldwide began marketing their own versions. Now, more and more people are investing in good sleep thanks to memory foam, as prices continue to decline and accommodate the growing market.

The terms "memory foam mattress topper", "memory foam topper", "memory foam mattress pad", and "memory foam pad" are all interchangeable. A memory foam mattress pad provides much of the comfort and support of a memory foam mattress, at a fraction of the cost. You place the mattress pad on an existing bed, preferably one with plenty of firm support.

The pad must be broken in over a period of days or weeks. Try sleeping directly on top of the foam, rather than on a sheet covering it, to speed the process of breaking it in.

Memory foam, despite the breathability of its open-celled composition, can sometimes heat up, making it somewhat uncomfortable to sleep on. Many retailers and manufacturers recognize this, and recommend trying the mattress pad with and without a top sheet. You might find a great difference in temperature. You can also try lowering your room temperature.

On the other hand, memory foam is temperature-sensitive, so the mattress might be too hard for you if your room temperature is below 65. If this is a problem, try warming your memory foam mattress with an electric blanket before going to bed.

If you want to protect your memory foam mattress pad from spills and accidents, you can buy covers made from a blend of soft cotton and water-resistant polymers. You can often obtain a memory foam mattress cover from the same place you bought your mattress.
